The City of Warrenville, Illinois, was recognized Wednesday by the League of American Bicyclists with a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award.

As a result of the award, Warrenville joins 350 other communities across the country who have received the same designation.

Warrenville also joins a group of communities with the 42 new and renewing BFCs in the city.

“We applaud this new round of communities for investing in a more sustainable future for the country and a healthier future for their residents and beyond,” Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists, said.

Mayor David Brummel said the award speaks to Warrenville's commitment to remaining bicycle friendly.

"The BFC program is revolutionizing the way communities evaluate their quality of life, sustainability and transportation networks, while allowing them to benchmark their progress toward improving their bicycle-friendliness," Brummel said. "The bronze-level BFC award recognizes Warrenville’s commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies."
