Lombard residents get 6-cent boost in trash-pickup fee

Waste

Although waste-management hauling prices in Lombard have slightly increased in 2015, the city continues to enjoy one of the lowest rates for garbage collection in the area, the city's website said last week.

Recently, Lombard decided to increase its garbage service rate by 6 cents for a standard 64-gallon toter.

Residents have the option to downsize from the 64-gallon toter to a 35-gallon tote, which will save them $2.76 monthly.

Residents are reminded that garbage cans are not permitted to be placed on the parkway for refuse pickup more than 12 hours before their scheduled collection times. The cans must be removed within 12 hours after pickup.

Garbage must also be placed in covered containers.

Waste-management trucks also will pick up 3-cubic-yard Dumpster bags for small home improvement projects.

Also, large items, such as sofas, tables, chairs, dressers, bookcases, mattresses, box springs or other large household furniture that do not contain CFC or HCFC refrigerant gasses or PCP components will be collected, as long as a refuse sticker is attached.

The stickers may be purchased at the village hall, as well as at Jewel, Schroeder's Ace Hardware in the Eastgate shopping center and West Suburban Bank.

Refuse should be placed on the curb by 6 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day.

Specific rates can be found at http://www.villageoflombard.org/153/Refuse-Recycling-Service.
