U.S. Rep. Bill Foster (D-Ill.) will host two fraud-prevention discussions this month to help senior citizens avoid scams, his office said Thursday.
The presentations will introduce senior citizens and their families to the fraud schemes scammers use on the elderly, and teach them how to avoid becoming victims.
The discussions will be held 10-11:15 a.m. Feb. 23 at the Alden of Waterford, 2000 Randi Drive, in Aurora and 2 to 3:15 p.m. at Heritage Woods, 550 Kildeere Drive, in Bolingbrook.
Speakers will include AARP Associate State Director of Advocacy and Outreach Courtney Hedderman, Federal Trade Commission Staff Attorney Bill Hodor and Social Security Administration Operations Supervisor Richard Reeb.
Hedderman will talk about Medicare fraud, including how to spot and report it, as well as introduce the Fraud Watch Network initiative.
Hodor will talk about grandparent scams, telemarketing scams, IRS imposters and the Pass it On Campaign.
Reeb will discuss Social Security scams.
