Commercial real estate sectors in Woodridge rebounded in 2014, with new retail stores, remodeled restaurants and the Union Pointe Business Park project in the mix.
Art Van Furniture opened in spring 2014 in a 68,000-square-foot store at the northwest corner of Broughton Road and Woodward Avenue.
Hobby Lobby also opened in the village in the former Sports Authority storefront at the Centerpointe Shopping Center.
The village saw a number of restaurants remodeled, including Wendy’s, Woodridge Caffe and Clara’s Restaurant, which built a second restaurant.
"Woodridge is experiencing significant new retail and industrial development again following the recession," Community Development Director Michael Mays said. "Since 2007, the community saw a net gain of approximately 68,800 square feet of retail.”
Woodridge also experienced a 4.9 percent vacancy rate in industrial space, a decrease from 6 percent in 2013.
Phase 2 of the Union Pointe Business Park construction was completed. The project included the construction of a 353,278-square-foot building built for Orbus Exhibit and Design.
Phase 3 construction began in August 2014 on a 256,000-square-foot facility that will house Kellogg’s regional distribution center, which makes cookies, crackers and other snack products.
