Glenbard West High School teacher Jim Fornaciari was recently honored as the College Board's AP Teacher of the Year for the Midwestern Region.

"It is a privilege to recommend Mr. Jim Fornaciari for the AP Teacher of the Year award," Glenbard West social studies chair Kristin Brandt said in her nomination of Fornaciari. "I have worked closely with Jim within the social studies department for the past 13 years and I have witnessed firsthand his extreme dedication to students, school and community. He is a man of great integrity and passion.

"Rigor is important to Jim. When he was presented the opportunity to develop an entirely new piece of curriculum at West, he embraced the challenge and made the course his own. ... He challenges students, gives them a game plan, provides practice opportunities, reflects on their performance and makes the necessary adjustments to create a top-notch program. ... He becomes a coach, cheerleader, teacher and leader to all."

Fornaciari will receive the award at the College Board's Midwestern Regional Forum in Chicago on Monday.

Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn has an enrollment of 2,127 students and an average class size of 26.1 students. It has ranked among the top 1,500 public schools in the United States six times.
