DuPage Convalescent Center seeking Valentines for residents

The DuPage County community has a chance to send Valentine wishes to residents of the DuPage Convalescent Center.

Residents at the center received more than 800 heart-shaped helium balloons last year. The balloons decorated rooms and corridors at the center.

“We look forward to continuing this tradition again this year,” DuPage County Health and Human Services Chairman Robert Larsen said. “Every year, Valentine’s Day gives us an additional opportunity to warm the hearts of the many elderly and disabled individuals who live here in our community.”

Donations of $3 to cover the cost of a Valentine balloon are being accepted through Feb. 12 and may be sent to the DuPage Convalescent Center, 400 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton, IL 60187, Attn: Valentine Balloons.

Funds from the sale of balloons will go toward the resident recreation fund that provides programs and activities to improve the quality of life for residents at the center.

Residents will receive the balloons on Feb. 13.

The DuPage Convalescent Center has 360 beds, with approximately 70 percent being occupied by Public Aid recipients. Twenty-five percent of the beds are occupied by people under the age of 55.
